What is Preneed Insurance?

Preneed Insurance is a Life Insurance or Annuity Policy used to fund your Prearranged Funeral Plan. It can be paid 100% up front (Single Pay) or over 3, 5, 7 or 10 years. Your payments are used to purchase a life insurance policy that will ensure payment when a claim is filed. We have a plan for everyone regardless of age or health condition.

A prearrangement allows you to make your funeral arrangements before the time of need. It is as important as planning your retirement or the insurance benefits you leave for your family. Without a preneed funeral plan, your family is left with the expenses and all the decisions regarding your funeral during a time of grief and loss. By preplanning, you relieve your family of the financial responsibility and the difficult decisions, offering them greater peace of mind.

When making prearrangements, you can plan for many details typically associated with this event. You will review your options and make decisions such as:

Your preferences are carefully documented to help ensure that your wishes will be followed when the time comes.

We offer insurance products with payment options that may meet your needs. You can pay for the entire policy at once (Single-Pay Option), or over a number of years (Multi-Pay Option). To make sure your preferences and selections are fulfilled at the time of need, your payments are used to purchase a life insurance policy. Insurance companies follow strict government guidelines and regulations to ensure that they can provide payment when a claim is filed.

While your funeral arrangements will be carried out by your funeral home, your payments toward that cost will be held by the government-regulated financial institution, Texas Service Life Insurance Company. That way, your funding is protected and available at the time of need.

Yes. When you purchase your insurance policy backed by Texas Service Life Insurance Company (TSLIC), you can rely on our financial strength and 30+ year history in the community to deliver payment of your pre-arranged funeral contract. TSLIC is able to honor your insurance claim when the claim is filed.

Depending on the type of policy you have and how long it has been in effect, you may have the option to pay down your balance. If this option is available to you, there may or may not be savings associated with exercising the early pay-off option. Please call our Customer Service Department at 1.800.756.7306 for additional details.

Changing your pre-arranged funeral selections may affect the payment arrangements previously made. In order to make sure your insurance policy will still cover the cost, please call our Customer Service Department at 1.800.756.7306. We will be happy to discuss options available to you.

Cancelling your funeral arrangements does not cancel your funding insurance policy. If you wish to cancel your funeral arrangements along with your payment plan, you will need to speak with our Customer Service Department at 1.800.756.7306 to review your contract and determine the various options available to you.

If you move to another city, you can select a new Funeral Home either now or at the time of need, as long as the new Funeral Home Provider accepts the contract terms. If you choose to have the funeral at a Funeral Home Provider that did not accept the contract terms, your life insurance policy and the benefits stay active, but the funeral prices are not guaranteed with a different funeral home.

If you move to another state, the funeral cannot be transferred there. However, your life insurance policy and benefits will remain active, and the funds can be used to cover funeral costs.

Along with your insurance policy and funeral contract from Texas Service Life Insurance Company, you will be provided with a policy ID Card containing important information about your policy and benefits. You should make sure that your designated family member or close friends are made aware of this ID Card and the location of the policy. Instruct your family to contact the funeral home specified in your funeral Prearrangement contract. If your family does not have the name or number of the funeral home, they can contact our Claims Department at 1.800.756.7306 or claims@tslic.com so we can put them in touch with the right person and begin the process of filing a claim on your policy.

Texas Service Life Insurance Company offers an optional “Away From Home” Rider that can provide additional benefits to offset the costs of transporting the insured’s remains to the contracted funeral home. Contact our Customer Service Department at 1.800.756.7306 to review your options.
